Tending Worker

About the Role

Join ENMAX Power Corporation as a Tending Worker supporting safe and effective field operations. In this hands-on position, you will ensure the safety of workers and equipment, monitor confined spaces continuously, and uphold a strong safety culture. You will perform your duties outside in all weather conditions, playing a critical part in operational safety.

Primary Responsibilities

• Comply with Alberta provincial laws, ENMAX policies, Alberta Electrical Utility Code (A.E.U.C.), and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
• Provide confined space support under the supervision of the Leadhand.
• Protect workers, the public, and equipment at job sites.
• Continuously observe confined spaces and maintain surveillance during operations.
• Recognize and manage potential dangers.
• Keep constant communication with personnel inside confined spaces.
• Remain at or near the entrance of confined spaces until properly relieved by another qualified attendant.
• Be trained and ready to activate emergency and evacuation protocols if necessary.
• Inspect equipment regularly and conduct routine maintenance.
• Ensure proper use and care of vehicles, tools, and work sites.
• Maintain precise safety documentation and records.

Qualifications and Experience

• Completion of High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (non-GDL).
• Capability to identify workplace hazards and actively engage in safety meetings and culture.
• Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
• Confined Space certification or willingness to obtain it upon hiring.
• Ability and willingness to work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
• Possession of or willingness to acquire First Aid and CPR certification.
• Commitment to upgrading certifications as required.
• Physical fitness to lift up to 50 pounds.

Additional Information

This is a temporary position through December 2027 with shifts from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, including alternating Fridays off (subject to operational changes). The workplace is located at Field Services Depot, 2020 Center Ave NE Calgary.

Compensation is $24.45 per hour as per the 2026 IBEW Collective Agreement. ENMAX provides a competitive compensation package with a flexible benefits program and amenities such as a free onsite fitness center, massage services, childcare (subject to availability), and free parking.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada, pass a criminal background check, and supply two valid government-issued IDs. A current driver's abstract is required (no more than 6 demerits) and the ability to meet company insurance standards is mandatory. Successful candidates must also pass a pre-employment medical screen including drug and alcohol testing.
