Job description

About the Company

Blacksmith specializes in delivering rapid CI infrastructure by operating a proprietary global fleet of bare-metal servers. Serving over 5,000 businesses and managing tens of millions of Firecracker VMs weekly, the company has grown to reach $50M in annual recurring revenue within 2.5 years and continues to scale. The team consists of industry veterans in distributed systems and technical go-to-market leadership, with backing from top venture firms.

Role Overview

As a Technical Storyteller, you'll establish and drive Blacksmith’s content generation engine, transforming technical achievements and product launches into engaging narratives. You’ll be responsible for ensuring a consistent cadence of high-impact content across multiple channels, shaping how new features and platform milestones are communicated, and amplifying stories of customer success. Your efforts will position Blacksmith as a thought leader in technical circles and introduce innovative products to the industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a pipeline that converts engineering work and launches into regular, high-quality technical content.
  • Work with product teams to define and execute compelling narratives for new features, including documentation, explainers, and demonstrations.
  • Investigate and showcase significant user success stories through interviews and case studies.
  • Author deep dives, technical benchmarks, product teardowns, and unique opinion pieces that resonate with the developer community.
  • Distribute narratives across multiple formats—such as blogs, videos, documentation, changelogs, and conference presentations—as most appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • At least five years’ experience crafting written material for technical audiences in areas such as developer media, technical content marketing, developer relations, or engineering journalism.
  • A portfolio demonstrating wide reach (e.g., viral posts on platforms like Hacker News or threads shared among engineers), with links required upon application.
  • Ability to comprehend and credibly convey advanced technical concepts, even without a formal engineering background.
  • Skill in interviewing technical experts and synthesizing information from design documents or code to create engaging stories.
  • A strong, distinctive writing voice; preference for bold, insightful perspectives over generic content.
  • Active participation in relevant online developer communities, with insightful awareness of industry trends.
  • Capacity for independent work—self-directed, proactive, and able to set your own editorial agenda.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Competitive salary coupled with equity options (early-exercise available).
  • 401k retirement plan with company match.
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • Annual company-wide retreat.
  • Up to 12 weeks fully paid parental leave for US-based employees.
