Technical Product Owner - Retail

Role Overview

The Technical Product Owner collaborates closely with business leaders to develop and manage the IT, Digital, and Ecommerce portfolio aligned with the strategic objectives of the retail business unit. Serving as the primary liaison between the business side and development teams, they facilitate smooth communication and technical guidance throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the technical facets of product development, partnering with product owners and managers to ensure clear requirement grooming, backlog prioritization, and technical support.
• Build strong relationships with business unit leadership and stakeholders to integrate into strategic decisions and drive key business priorities.
• Advise on technical decisions, contribute to the formulation of House of Quality (HoQ) and product backlog epics.
• Define, manage, and approve user stories in collaboration with business product owners.
• Participate in vendor selection processes (RFx), assessing functional compatibility of solutions and proposals.
• Support development of business cases, operating model changes, and integrate plans and budgets effectively.
• Bring innovative ideas and fresh approaches to drive business improvements.
• Collaborate with Principal Engineers on solution definition and architectural development, including decommissioning plans.
• Assist Senior Program and Project Managers in planning program and project timelines.
• Engage actively in sprint planning sessions, resolving technical queries to maintain momentum.
• Support product managers in refining product backlogs, including detailed user story breakdowns, specifying acceptance criteria, and referencing design documentation (UX/UI, HLD, LLD).
• Enhance solution demand and delivery methodologies, practices, procedures, and tooling.
• Contribute to preparation of Business Requirements Documents (BRDs) for traditional project frameworks.

Qualifications and Experience

• A degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related scientific disciplines is required.
• Between 5 to 7 years of IT experience (Band H) or more than 7 years (Band I), with business domain expertise of 3 to 5 years (Band H) or over 5 years (Band I).
• Comprehensive Ecommerce knowledge encompassing front-end and back-end technologies, including feature implementation, platform migrations, and code optimization.
• Senior-level experience with system and data architectures such as Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, and server-side optimizations.
• Proven expertise in back-end systems including Microsoft Dynamics, POS systems, marketing automation, and customer data platform integrations.
• Familiarity with Scrum or Agile methodologies, including participation in Design Thinking workshops.
• Solid understanding of UX design principles, website, and mobile development considerations.
• Demonstrated success in comparable roles within technical product ownership.
• Deep knowledge of business operating models across sectors like Retail, Automotive, Banking, Financial Services, Treasury, Insurance, and Real Estate.
• Experience with developing solution designs, infrastructure architecture, IT security management, sourcing and procurement, and service management.
• Expertise in IT quality assurance including test planning, quality control standards, defect tracking, and continuous improvement.
• Strong project management skills involving planning, execution, stakeholder engagement, risk mitigation, and delivery oversight.
• Proven track record in vendor management, including evaluation, contract oversight, performance tracking, and governance of service delivery.
