Staff/Principal Backend Engineer - E-commerce

Role Overview

As a technical leader in this role, you will actively contribute to scaling the core e-commerce backend infrastructure supporting millions of users globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead architecture design, coding, and optimization initiatives for complex, highly distributed backend systems, dedicating most of your time to producing and reviewing production-quality code.
• Own the end-to-end technical roadmap for essential systems including order management, checkout processing, and pricing engines that handle high concurrency.
• Champion large-scale engineering projects and provide mentorship to senior engineers across various teams.
• Utilize AI-driven development tools to streamline release cycles and enhance code quality.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing and building large-scale, high-transaction backend systems specifically for e-commerce, retail technology, or marketplace platforms.
• A minimum of 10 years in software engineering with proven leadership in managing complex distributed architectures; a degree in Computer Science or related disciplines is mandatory.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, Go, or Python, with a strong preference for candidates skilled in Node.js backend development.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud infrastructure and services, particularly AWS and container orchestration with Kubernetes, alongside core data management tools like MySQL, MongoDB, Kafka, Redis, and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Familiarity with modern AI-assisted coding tools, including but not limited to GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude Code, to maximize productivity and code quality.
