The Ads organization at Reddit supports its advertising platform, connecting advertisers with engaged communities while driving Reddit's growth. The reliability of these Ads systems is critical to advertiser success, revenue, and user experience. The Ads Reliability team collaborates with Ads Engineering to enhance system reliability, scalability, operational practices, and developer productivity.

Key Responsibilities

Lead reliability efforts across various Ads areas such as ad serving, auctions, targeting, reporting, measurement, and billing.
Collaborate with engineering leaders to advance reliability, scalability, operational integrity, and efficiency within the Ads teams.
Conduct architecture reviews and influence critical technical decisions impacting revenue-generating systems.
Design and develop platforms, tools, and automation that bolster reliability and developer productivity at scale.
Participate actively in on-call duties, spearhead complex incident analyses, and coordinate multi-team responses during major production events.
Detect systemic reliability vulnerabilities and implement long-term resilience improvements.
Define and track reliability metrics for vital advertiser workflows, including campaign creation, ad delivery, auction participation, reporting, attribution, and billing.
Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across several teams.
Shape roadmap planning ensuring reliability considerations guide product and infrastructure investments.

Candidate Qualifications

Minimum 8 years’ experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or equivalent roles operating large-scale distributed systems.
Extensive background managing high-traffic, user-facing production environments.
Strong knowledge of distributed systems, networking, Linux, and cloud-native architectures.
Proven experience designing highly available systems with robust operational and reliability methodologies.
Expertise in observability tools including metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting systems.
Proficient programming skills in Go, Python, or similar languages.
Experience enhancing reliability through SLOs, automation, incident handling, and performance tuning.
Strong aptitude for diagnosing complex issues throughout modern distributed system stacks.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills capable of influencing cross-team technical directions.

Preferred Additional Skills and Experience

Background supporting advertising technology or other significant revenue-critical platforms.
In-depth understanding of challenges related to ad-serving, real-time auctions, budget pacing, campaign delivery, measurement, attribution, or billing.
Experience operating high queries-per-second (QPS), low-latency services where latency significantly affects business outcomes.
Track record in establishing reliability programs driving tangible, measurable business results.
Familiarity with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, and large distributed systems.
Experience with large-scale data platforms such as Kafka, ClickHouse, Spark, Flink, or BigQuery.
Ability to partner effectively with Product, Data Science, and Ads Engineering teams.
Experience supporting machine learning inference or large-scale recommendation systems.
