Senior PHP / Laravel Developer (Microservices & Architecture)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior PHP Developer to lead the design and development of our product's backend, which consists of a microservice-oriented Laravel architecture covering diverse functional components. Newer services are developed using a proprietary micro-framework built on Lumen packages rather than the standard Lumen framework. This leadership position requires a hands-on approach, where you will make key architectural choices, optimize service implementation, and serve as the technical cornerstone for the engineering team, championing superior code quality, design, and engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and refine microservices deployed in a distributed Laravel ecosystem, including custom-built Lumen-based solutions.
• Establish and continuously improve service divisions, inter-service communication mechanisms, and API contract standards.
• Enhance overall service performance, scalability, and dependability.
• Lead thorough code reviews and mentor the team on sound design patterns and engineering best practices.
• Implement and uphold rigorous engineering standards relating to testing, documentation, and maintainability.
• Provide guidance and skill development support to mid-level and senior engineers to elevate team capabilities.
• Take full responsibility for feature delivery across multiple service domains, managing everything from data modeling to API specifications.

Candidate Profile

• 8 to 12 years of professional experience in PHP development with strong Laravel expertise.
• Solid background in software architecture focused on microservices design, including defining service boundaries, handling distributed data systems, and shaping API contracts.
• Proven leadership in conducting code reviews and mentoring peers regarding design choices and engineering excellence.
• Deep understanding of SOLID principles, design patterns, and technology trade-offs in architectural design.
• Experience with custom frameworks and packages based on Lumen, beyond common off-the-shelf tools.
• Expertise in modern PHP (version 8.x) and object-oriented programming fundamentals.
• Advanced proficiency with SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and query tuning techniques.
• Hands-on experience working with RESTful APIs, version control systems like Git, and automated testing frameworks including PHPUnit and Pest.

Additional Desirable Skills

• Practical knowledge of Lumen framework, particularly the custom adaptations used within the product.
• Experience in building or extending micro-frameworks and custom PHP packages.
• Familiarity with asynchronous processing and message queue systems such as RabbitMQ, Redis, and Laravel Queues.
• Understanding of caching mechanisms and event-driven architecture concepts.
• Knowledge of API gateways and service discovery implementations.
