Job description
Overview
Join Claires Court as a Maintenance and Caretaking Operative in a dynamic, permanent role designed to keep a thriving school safe, welcoming, and efficiently running. This position is located in Maidenhead, Berkshire, with a full-time, 40-hour weekly commitment from Monday to Friday across 52 weeks a year.
Main Duties
- Conduct everyday repairs and routine maintenance tasks across school premises.
- Identify problems and provide practical, safe solutions effectively.
- Perform basic plumbing, minor electrical work, painting, decorating, and carpentry tasks.
- Maintain doors, locks, windows, flooring, furniture, and fittings to ensure proper function and appearance.
- Carry out fire alarm and emergency lighting inspections to meet safety compliance.
- Assist with event room preparations, deliveries, equipment relocations, and grounds upkeep including pool maintenance.
- Ensure security measures are upheld and external facilities remain safe and well-presented.
- Document maintenance jobs using digital tools such as smartphones or computers.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will possess hands-on maintenance experience, possibly from roles in facilities management, caretaking, property repairs, or general handy work. Experience within a school environment is advantageous but not required. Essential personal qualities include practical problem-solving skills, good judgment, the ability to prioritize urgent tasks, and reliability.
Additional desirable attributes include a positive and helpful attitude, strong organizational and time management skills, capability to work autonomously and collaboratively, professional and polite demeanor, and the physical capacity to lift equipment, operate ladders, and work outdoors. A valid, clean UK driving license is mandatory.
Relevant trade certifications or safety qualifications are helpful but not compulsory.
