Job description
Position Overview
The National University of Singapore's College of Design and Engineering, within the Civil and Environmental Engineering department, is seeking multiple Research Fellows to contribute to an innovative research project focusing on developing a data-driven and AI-enhanced framework. This framework will assess the effects of vehicle speed management policies with an emphasis on age-related vulnerability. The study will integrate age demographics of road users, various vehicle categories such as passenger cars, trucks, and buses, alongside environmental and roadway conditions.
Designed to enrich knowledge on how ageing affects the correlation between vehicle speed and crash outcomes, the project intends to provide practical decision-support tools aiding the formulation of adaptive and inclusive speed policies for older populations. Besides analyzing road crash data, the research will incorporate experimental data from driving simulators for model development and validation.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize and conduct traffic safety data collection, including extensive driving simulator experiments.
- Develop and apply AI-based models for traffic safety analysis.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentation materials.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders through meetings and discussions.
Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of a PhD in Traffic Safety, Computer Engineering/Science, Data Science, or a related area; candidates expected to graduate within six months of employment are also eligible.
- Proven experience in developing models using driving simulator data.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, R, Java, SQL, Julia, C#, or C++.
- Strong interpersonal and communication capabilities.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrate motivation, and exhibit teamwork and leadership qualities.
- Willingness to accept a fixed-term contract appointment.
Preferred Experience
- Expertise in driving simulator-based model development and machine learning techniques.
- Research background in traffic safety and utilizing driving simulators.
- A strong publication track record in internationally recognized journals.
