Role Overview
This freelance illustrator role involves producing six essential illustrations for a children’s picture book series targeting ages 6 to 10. The artwork will serve a central role in marketing campaigns, a Kickstarter launch, and a limited-edition print release. Pending successful collaboration, there is potential for continued involvement throughout the larger series.
Key Deliverables
- Develop six major pieces of art divided into three delivery batches over roughly three weeks.
- Submit all finalized illustrations by August 14, 2026.
- Employ a loose, hand-drawn style using pencil or ink linework paired with a soft watercolour wash.
- Produce artwork supportive of marketing, crowdfunding efforts, and collectible print editions.
- Maintain a warm, storybook-like aesthetic that embraces slightly imperfect finishes rather than polished or fully rendered visuals.
- Collaborate closely with the book’s author to ensure artwork enhances the narrative and shared creative vision.
- Deliver high-resolution digital files suitable for both print and digital formats.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Demonstrable experience in children’s book illustration with a portfolio illustrating character design, hand-drawn line art, and wash or watercolour techniques.
- Skill in both traditional and digital media adhering strictly to original, non-AI generated artwork.
- Strong ability to create expressive, story-driven images that complement text.
- Proficiency in crafting appealing characters for young readers.
- Strong time management skills and the capability to meet firm project deadlines.
- Willingness to engage in regular communication and incorporate feedback during the assignment.
- Experience producing artwork for marketing or publishing campaigns is advantageous.
