Quality Technician - Torque Analyst (1st Shift)

About the Role

Join Caterpillar Inc., a global leader dedicated to building stronger and sustainable communities, as a Quality Technician Torque Analyst in Lafayette, Indiana. In this position, you will ensure torque control tooling used in assembly meets strict engineering standards through inspection, maintenance, and repair activities. You will also support assembly operations by handling nonconforming materials and collaborating with suppliers and engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to assembly and machine shop line calls to address issues involving torque-controlled tooling.
• Interpret Caterpillar assembly blueprints to assist in troubleshooting and inspection tasks.
• Diagnose and resolve problems with pneumatic and electric torque-control tools.
• Partner with engineering teams to verify adherence to torque specifications on bolted joints.
• Process dealer returns and conduct correlation audits with suppliers to maintain quality standards.
• Perform rework on materials that do not meet quality criteria to support smooth assembly processes.

Candidate Requirements

• Practical experience with gaging equipment and quality assurance processes.
• Fundamental understanding of engine mechanics.
• Ability to read and interpret technical prints and documentation.
• Working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical tooling systems.
• Basic computer literacy to handle documentation and communication.
• Completion of the company’s Quality Specialist training exercise within six months of employment is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong problem-solving aptitude.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed to meet production requirements.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong customer-focused approach.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift, push, and pull loads up to 40 pounds.
• Capability to bend, twist at the waist, and squat frequently.
• Standing for extended periods (8+ hours) on concrete surfaces.

Additional Information

• Position primarily operates on the 1st shift from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM, with training on this shift; future shift changes may occur.

• Competitive hourly wage between $30.28 and $38.52, subject to individual factors.
