Role overview

Tesla is looking for an experienced Project Designer focused on energy projects to help shape the planning and design of solar, storage, and EV charging systems. This role supports projects for commercial, industrial, utility, and government customers. The position calls for strong technical ability, a practical creative approach, and the ability to work smoothly with both internal teams and outside partners.

What you will do

• Prepare and plan energy projects such as solar, storage, and EV charging systems so they align with client needs, applicable standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Join project discussions and complete site reviews to judge feasibility, choose the right system setup, and support successful delivery.
• Create detailed project packages that include layout drawings, equipment details, and cost estimates.
• Stay current on new technologies, market developments, and established practices in energy system design.
• Communicate regularly with clients, vendors, utilities, AHJs, and contractors, while partnering with engineering and construction teams to confirm that designs can be built and will meet compliance needs.
• Support projects during execution by answering design and engineering questions and updating designs when changes are needed.
• Run energy simulations and performance analysis to improve system output and generation, and document all design details, specifications, and revisions for future reference.

What you need

• A degree in engineering, renewable energy, or similar experience in place of a degree.
• Hands-on background in designing energy projects, ideally in solar, storage, or EV charging.
• Ability to use CAD tools such as AutoCAD and other design software to produce accurate drawings, along with a solid grasp of energy system parts, electrical line diagrams, and construction plans.
• Familiarity with energy modeling and simulation tools.
• Working knowledge of national and local electrical codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• Strong project management capability, including handling several projects at once and meeting deadlines.
• Creative problem-solving mindset and enthusiasm for sustainable energy solutions.

Compensation and benefits

This is a full-time position with competitive pay. The expected annual compensation is $96,000 to $210,000, plus cash and stock awards and benefits.
