Product Developer

Overview

Join Avient Corporation as a Product Developer located in Greenville, NC to create innovative Dyneema® composites—the lightest and highest-performing fabrics used in outdoor applications. This role covers all phases of project execution from concept through commercial production scale-up while fostering research and problem-solving in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and advance Dyneema® composite materials, delivering new products for diverse outdoor uses through the full project lifecycle including ideation, feasibility, development, and scale-up.
• Lead or contribute to applied and fundamental research projects to improve Dyneema® products.
• Troubleshoot production challenges onsite, utilizing hands-on knowledge of fabric manufacturing processes with agility and a solution-oriented approach.
• Manage project plans to achieve timely development and production outcomes within budget and regulatory requirements.
• Stay informed about scientific and industrial advances relevant to product development, supporting the R&D team's expertise and strategic insights.
• Identify intellectual property opportunities and risks and actively support the growth and protection of the company's IP portfolio.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, and security policies and consistently model safe work practices.
• Authorize project proposals, investment decisions, testing schedules, supplier contacts for critical materials, and patent initiations.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in engineering, materials science (preferably textile or yarn manufacturing), or related discipline preferred; alternatively, a bachelor’s with over 5 years' relevant experience or equivalent academic proficiency.
• Between 3 and 10 years’ experience in academic or industrial research environments, with proven impactful contributions in the field.
• Strong enthusiasm to convert scientific concepts into practical, real-world applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with strong analytical and conceptual abilities.
• Collaborative mindset with a commitment to teamwork in a dynamic setting.
• Familiarity with statistics and experimental design is advantageous.
• Fluency in English is required.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual due to export control regulations impacting job responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and sit for long durations, talk, listen, and use hands regularly.
• Capability to walk, occasionally bend, stoop, climb ladders or stairs.
• May need to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Work involves conducting trials in a manufacturing environment requiring personal protective equipment like safety glasses, shoes, hearing protection, and hard hats.
• Routine exposure to outdoor weather; occasional work in extreme heat, humidity, dust, and fumes.
