Role Overview
GoodHabitz is transitioning from a sales-driven strategy to one centered around product impact. We seek a Product Data Lead to establish and develop our product data function from scratch. This pivotal role involves creating the event taxonomy, setting instrumentation standards, and building analytics frameworks that enable data-driven product decisions. You'll convert disjointed data into a reliable system trusted by both product teams and executive leadership. This position reports directly to the Director of Product and holds significant influence across product and executive levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop foundational data systems, including defining a product event taxonomy and naming conventions, collaborating with engineering on tracking plans, and instituting instrumentation quality monitoring to promptly detect issues.
- Design metrics to measure user activation and retention by creating activation funnels with segmentation (e.g., LMS versus platform users, cohort analysis) and consistent retention tracking, while empowering teams to perform self-service analysis.
- Manage the overall metrics narrative by establishing regular reporting rituals with agreed-upon metric definitions and owners, providing a coherent story from activation through engagement, retention, and Gross Revenue Retention (GRR) that leadership can rely on.
- Foster cross-team collaboration by clarifying roles between product data, analytics engineering, and domain teams; lead implementation of identity stitching such as account-level joins; and balance delivering practical initial models with iterative refinement towards rigor.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience creating a product data ecosystem end-to-end, encompassing instrumentation, data modeling, and dashboard design.
- Skilled at hands-on tasks (SQL querying, data modeling, dashboard creation) while simultaneously influencing how the data discipline evolves and scales organizationally.
- Experience owning tracking plans, event taxonomies, or naming convention schemes, collaborating closely with engineering teams.
- Adept at converting vague business or product questions into precise, durable measurement definitions.
- History of enhancing data trustworthiness through quality assurance processes and meticulous documentation.
- Experience with B2B SaaS product teams involving multiple user journey surfaces is advantageous.
- Comfortable engaging with stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Revenue, and Customer Success domains.
What This Role Is Not Suited For
- Candidates preferring to join an established data team rather than build frameworks from the ground up.
- Applicants who want to remain purely hands-on without influencing processes and structures as the discipline grows.
- Individuals seeking narrowly focused analytics roles; this position spans instrumentation, modeling, reporting, and cross-functional alignment.
- Those unwilling to lead consensus-building conversations around metric ownership, priority setting, and shared definitions.
