Our client is a well-established steel manufacturing enterprise based in Tanzania. The company specializes in steel production alongside various downstream manufacturing processes. It operates a large, technically advanced production facility sourcing materials from both local and global suppliers. Emphasizing quality, operational efficiency, and steady production, they seek experienced procurement professionals to enhance their growth and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee comprehensive procurement operations within the steel manufacturing plant.
• Identify, negotiate, and source goods and services from both local and international suppliers.
• Collect, assess, and compare technical as well as commercial quotes for procurement decisions.
• Acquire machinery, spare parts, consumables, and materials needed for maintenance activities.
• Develop and maintain trustworthy relationships with local Tanzanian suppliers.
• Manage procurement activities involving international markets such as India, China, Turkey, and Europe.
• Track purchase orders, deliveries, and evaluate supplier performances continuously.
• Collaborate closely with departments including Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Stores, and Finance.
• Implement cost control measures for procurement and identify areas for cost savings.
• Ensure availability of critical spare parts while aiming to minimize stock shortages.
• Assist in inventory planning and reduce urgent procurement incidents.
• Keep procurement records accurate and maintain ERP system data integrity.
• Guarantee compliance with procurement policies and uphold thorough documentation standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Possess a Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial Engineering, or a relevant field.
• Have a minimum of five years' experience in procurement roles, preferably within industrial sectors.
• Exhibit strong negotiation capabilities and effective management of supplier relationships.
• Understand the local Tanzanian industrial supplier landscape well.
• Experience with international sourcing and importation processes.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications and industrial hardware components.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP or procurement software systems.
• Demonstrate solid commercial awareness and analytical thinking.
• Excellent follow-up, coordination, and communication skills.
• High ethical standards, meticulous attention to detail, and capacity to perform under pressure.
