Job Responsibilities

This hybrid role requires candidates to reside within 100 miles of any Mayo Clinic campus to accommodate on-site duties when necessary. The Procedural Coder is responsible for examining, interpreting, and coding professional and physician medical documentation involving diagnostic and procedural details from diverse practice areas.

Qualifications and Skills

The role demands a High School diploma paired with at least 4 years of procedural/surgical coding experience outside Mayo Clinic, or 4 years coding experience in other Mayo Clinic departments (non-surgical). Alternatively, an Associate's Degree with 2 years of procedural/surgical coding experience is acceptable. Certifications such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P, or CPC are mandatory. Preference is given to candidates with a Bachelor's Degree and those experienced in procedural coding for Urology and Gynecology. HFMA certification is also desirable.

• Comprehensive understanding of physician coding guidelines and specialized procedural coding.
• Familiarity with coding standards including NCCI, NCD, LCD, and outpatient coding protocols.
• In-depth medical terminology and clinical knowledge related to disease processes and documentation.
• Expertise in compliant healthcare billing and collection strategies.
• Knowledge of billing procedures relevant to teaching hospitals and provider-based billing locations.
• Ability to work independently, organize workloads, communicate effectively, maintain attention to detail, and demonstrate perseverance.

Compensation and Schedule

The hourly wage ranges from $27.99 to $37.78. Employment is full-time with an 80-hour biweekly schedule. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with no assigned weekend shifts.
