Overview

The Principal Project Officer is responsible for leading the delivery of medium to large infrastructure projects that enhance safe and high-quality care for children and youth served by Children's Health Queensland (CHQ). Operating within the Capital Infrastructure Delivery team, this role manages projects from initial concept through construction, commissioning, and completion phases. The officer applies strong project governance, risk assessment, and engages effectively with stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet strategic CHQ priorities.

Team Background

The Facilities & Capital Infrastructure (F&CI) team encompasses asset management, capital planning and delivery, property and leasing management, facilities maintenance, engineering services, contracts administration, and facilities management for Jacaranda Place. CHQ's property portfolio includes Queensland Children's Hospital precinct along with various owned, leased, and co-occupied community and office facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee medium to large scale infrastructure projects across all phases, ensuring robust financial, risk, and project governance controls.
  • Create and manage comprehensive project governance plans, budgets, and supporting documentation to meet quality and timely delivery goals.
  • Monitor and report regularly on project timelines, budget forecasts, expenditures, and promptly identify risks with mitigation strategies and escalations if needed.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships to ensure project benefits and aims are achieved and stakeholders remain informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Deliver detailed project documentation, including progress and closure reports for large infrastructure and technical projects.
  • Prepare and present clear written submissions, briefs, presentations, and reports to guide senior leaders' informed decision-making.
  • Communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders including service providers and clinical and non-clinical CHQ teams.
  • Mentor and supervise project staff, consultants, and contractors promoting team capability and multi-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Facilitate timely decision-making on project-related issues through relevant and well-structured updates on project, financial, and human resource topics.
  • Contribute to a workplace culture that promotes equity, anti-discrimination, work health and safety (WHS), and ethical conduct.
  • Maintain and advocate for a safe workplace prioritizing health and safety compliance, including infection control management practices.
  • Foster a positive work environment encouraging high performance, wellbeing, and leadership development.
  • Ensure adherence to Building Code of Australia, Workplace Health and Safety Act, Australian Standards including Australasian Health Facility Guidelines, and infection control protocols.
