Job description
Role Overview
The University of Staffordshire is seeking a motivated Facilities Support Assistant to join its Facilities team, focusing on portering and postal services across the Stoke and Stafford campuses. This full-time, permanent position plays a vital role in maintaining smooth campus operations by delivering portering, postal, and general facilities support services at multiple university locations.
Main Duties
- Perform diverse portering tasks including furniture relocation, room and event setup, receipt and distribution of deliveries, and customer interaction.
- Respond promptly to facilities service requests through the enterprise service management system (Solve), ensuring tasks are completed efficiently with accurate record updates.
- Handle internal and external mail and parcels by receiving, sorting, processing, and delivering using digital tracking tools.
- Coordinate courier pickups and deliveries and assist with transferring inter-site library loans and post.
- Identify and report any maintenance needs to the university trades teams or external contractors.
- Support cleaning activities in specified internal and external university locations as assigned by the Facilities team.
- Assist during emergency events including fire alarms and building evacuations.
- Follow building security policies, manage keys, and ensure facilities are properly secured.
- Operate university vehicles on and off campus, performing daily vehicle inspections and reporting any defects.
- Work flexibly across multiple campuses and buildings to fulfill operational demands.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Good standard of education or equivalent relevant experience.
- Possession of a valid, clean UK driving license.
- Experience in roles involving portering, postal functions, parcel delivery, or related support services.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to prioritize workloads effectively and respond to service requests.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Flexibility to operate across multiple university sites and adapt to changing priorities.
- Willingness to participate in training and induction programs.
Desirable Credentials
- Certification in Manual Handling training.
- Previous experience working in facilities management, education, healthcare, or large multi-site environments.
