Role Overview
This position is for a meticulous Pathology Coder who can translate pathology and laboratory documentation into correct medical codes. The role calls for solid expertise in coding standards, strong knowledge of medical language and basic science, and the ability to meet both accuracy and turnaround expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze pathology reports and supporting clinical records to determine the appropriate codes.
- Apply ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines accurately for pathology and laboratory services.
- Follow client, payer, and regulatory coding rules to ensure compliance.
- Spot missing or unclear documentation and raise queries when additional detail is needed.
- Work toward established quality benchmarks and productivity goals.
- Keep current with updates in coding rules, healthcare regulations, and related industry practices.
- Coordinate with quality assurance and internal stakeholders to clear coding discrepancies and related issues.
- Protect patient confidentiality in line with HIPAA requirements and internal policies.
Candidate Profile
- Deep familiarity with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding conventions.
- Working knowledge of pathology and laboratory coding standards.
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Strong analytical ability with a sharp eye for detail.
- Self-driven approach with the capacity to work independently and stay on target for productivity.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
Eligibility
Applicants should be graduates from any discipline. Pathology coding experience is required. Certification such as AAPC CPC, AHIMA CCS, CCA, or an equivalent credential is preferred. Familiarity with EMR or EHR systems will be considered an added advantage.
