About the Role
Joining the Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS) means becoming part of a large team committed to positively impacting the lives of over a million Maryland residents annually through economic aid, preventive programs, and support for children and adults. The department fosters innovation and ensures inclusive service delivery throughout Maryland.
This Office Clerk II position, classified at grade ASTD7, is located at the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services, Central Services in Landover, MD.
Main Responsibilities
- Coordinate office setups such as arranging or relocating furniture and equipment.
- Manage the daily mail courier service, including preparing mail courier bags and carrying out deliveries to satellite and support offices.
- Organize pick-up and delivery of boxes, supplies, and heavy office furniture or equipment as needed.
- Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs on office furniture and equipment.
- Handle the collection, storage, and disposal of shredded materials, confidential documents, and furniture at the County landfill site.
Qualifications
- Completion of the eighth grade is required.
- Minimum of one year of clerical experience in an office setting.
- Substitutions allowed: additional clerical experience can replace educational requirements on a year-for-year basis; a high school diploma or equivalency certificate can substitute for six months of relevant experience; six months of clerical training with coursework in key office subjects can also substitute; military service in specific administrative roles can count toward experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Capability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- At least six months of experience providing customer service.
- Six months of data entry experience, particularly related to delivery and pickup documentation.
Additional Details
There are no license, registration or certification requirements for this position.
The selection will be based on a review of education, training, and experience with possible supplemental questionnaires. Candidates currently in State service applying for promotion will have salaries determined according to State guidelines.
