Mechanical Design Engineer

Role Overview

This position requires a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in tooling and welding fixture design within heavy engineering. The role focuses on designing and validating fixtures to support manufacturing efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop tooling, welding, and fabrication fixtures for heavy engineering projects.
• Independently create and validate innovative fixture concepts with emphasis on manufacturability.
• Perform detailed weld modeling and ensure fixture validation aligns with engineering specifications.
• Interpret and apply GD&T standards to produce precise and reliable design outputs.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to facilitate fabrication and assembly workflows.
• Prepare comprehensive 3D models, 2D engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Participate actively in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure all designs comply with quality standards, tolerances, and production requirements.

Requirements and Skills

• Proven hands-on experience designing tooling and welding fixtures, as well as fabrication designs in heavy engineering.
• Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
• Expertise with CAD software such as Creo and Siemens NX for 3D modeling.
• Experience with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles.
• Experience supporting shop floor implementation and troubleshooting manufacturing issues.
• Familiarity with simulation or validation software tools.
• Technical knowledge of fabrication techniques, welding processes, assembly setups, and material behavior including welding distortion and fixture correction.
• Previous exposure to the heavy engineering or manufacturing industry is highly desirable.
