Job description

About AerX Labs

AerX Labs, based in Bangalore, is a cutting-edge startup specializing in professional-grade flight simulators and various pioneering products for the aviation sector. Our multidisciplinary engineering team, comprising electronics, software, mechanical engineering, product design, and AI specialists, enables us to innovate and exceed the demanding standards of aviation training and maintenance.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Lead Hardware Design Engineer to take full ownership of hardware product development—from initial concept and architectural design to validation and production. This position includes setting the technical strategy for embedded hardware, ensuring superior design quality across products, and mentoring junior hardware engineers within our certifiable aviation product line.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive hardware product development phases, including requirements gathering, system architecture, component selection, schematic creation, PCB design, prototyping, testing, and production support.
  • Design complex embedded systems based on processors and SoCs such as NXP i.MX and TI Sitara, addressing digital, analog, mixed-signal, and power domains.
  • Manage intricate multilayer PCB layouts, covering stack-up planning, component placement, impedance control, differential routing, length matching, grounding strategies, and advanced high-speed design techniques.
  • Develop and troubleshoot high-speed interfaces including LPDDR4, DDR3/4, PCIe, Gigabit Ethernet (RGMII), USB, HDMI, MIPI CSI/DSI, eMMC, SPI, I2C, and UART.
  • Architect power solutions incorporating DC-DC converters, LDOs, PMICs, power sequencing, protection, and reset mechanisms.
  • Review schematics and layouts focusing on signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC compliance, thermal management, and manufacturability concerns.
  • Lead prototype board bring-up procedures, hardware debugging, verification, and rigorous fault analysis.
  • Support electromagnetic compliance testing in alignment with DO-160, MIL-STD-461, and relevant standards.
  • Conduct engineering analyses such as DFMEA, derating, MTBF estimation, worst-case circuit analysis, and tolerance studies.
  • Collaborate closely with firmware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, quality assurance, and certification teams to deliver certified products.
  • Provide leadership within the hardware engineering function and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Over 10 years of experience in embedded hardware design and product development.
  • Demonstrated expertise in schematic design and complex multilayer PCB layout with multiple products successfully shipped.
  • Proficient in industry-standard ECAD tools such as Cadence OrCAD Capture and Allegro PCB Editor, Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics Xpedition, or KiCAD.
  • In-depth knowledge of high-speed digital design, signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Experience with application processors, DDR memory technologies, and high-speed interfaces including Ethernet, PCIe, USB, HDMI, and MIPI.
  • Hands-on lab skills for board bring-up, validation, debugging, and root-cause failure investigation using standard test equipment.
  • Experience in aerospace, avionics, or industrial embedded systems preferred; familiarity with DO-160 and MIL-STD compliance is advantageous.

Benefits and Culture

  • Opportunity to own hardware development for certifiable, professional-grade simulation products.
  • Be part of a multi-disciplinary engineering environment that includes electronics, software, mechanical, and AI expertise.
  • Work in a dynamic startup atmosphere with low bureaucracy and direct leadership engagement.
  • Receive competitive remuneration reflecting your experience and expertise.

Eligibility

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.Tech or B.E.) in any specialization is required to apply.
