Overview
Barden is pleased to assist a global biotechnology company in recruiting a Lab Services Technician for their advanced manufacturing site in Cork, Ireland. The technician will handle daily lab operations to ensure efficient and safe support of biologics laboratory studies within the Biologics Centre of Excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate laboratory tasks through communication with team members and cross-functional departments.
- Prepare buffers, media, and cleaning agents ranging from 10 mL to 500 L, verifying characteristics such as pH, conductivity, and osmolality.
- Record all preparation procedures and results within Electronic Lab Notebooks (eLN).
- Complete safety and process risk assessments as required by BPD standards.
- Provide support for lab study requests from Manufacturing and Quality Control teams.
- Conduct biohazard waste inactivation and maintain cleanliness of laboratory equipment including biosafety cabinets, incubators, fume hoods, water baths, freezers, and refrigerators on a routine schedule.
- Perform daily calibration of pH and conductivity probes, and refrigeration temperature checks.
- Carry out weekly calibration of balances and cleaning of fume hoods.
- Execute monthly cleaning of biosafety cabinets, water baths, and pH probes.
- Manage freezer operations including liquid nitrogen monitoring, defrosting, and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Collaborate with the Equipment Manager to address equipment-related issues.
- Order raw materials and consumables needed for laboratory activities.
- Serve as the primary contact for warehouse, shipping, and off-site storage coordination within the lab.
- Perform sampling of water and condensate in compliance with procedures for lab RIW, LPUW, and clean steam systems.
- Oversee cell bank dewars by performing weekly liquid nitrogen fillings.
- Monitor alarm systems for temperature-controlled units.
- Assist with implementing 6S organizational practices within the laboratory.
- Maintain the sample tracking system for fridges and freezers, including annual defrosting.
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills and utilize computer applications as required for job duties.
Candidate Profile
- Possessing an NCEA certificate in a related scientific or administrative field is advantageous.
- At least 1 to 2 years of experience in laboratory housekeeping, preferably within a GMP-compliant setting.
