Inspector - Coating and Painting

About the Role

This role is for a Painting and Coating Inspector based in Abu Dhabi, reporting to the Team Leader and working closely with the IND Manager, Project Manager, Technical Manager, and Clients. The position requires direct communication with clients and other related organizational units.

Qualifications and Training

• Must hold certifications such as NACE, CSWIP, British Gas Painting Inspector Grade II, or an equivalent qualification.
• Educational background should be a Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or an HNC.
• Required training includes Site Safety Induction, Sea Survival Course for Offshore Sites, and specific technical inductions related to projects.

Technical Expertise and Experience

• In-depth knowledge of relevant International Codes and Standards including ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM, and BS.
• Experience inspecting Painting/Coating operations following the applicable codes and project specifications.
• Inspector roles require a minimum of 5 years in a similar function; Engineer Surveyor requires at least 8 years; Senior Engineer Surveyor demands 10 years or more.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, approve, and oversee contractors' painting, coating, and wrapping procedures.
• Inspect surface profiles and conduct chloride contamination tests as per standards.
• Monitor environmental conditions and equipment during coating activities.
• Verify usage of approved paint materials with valid pot life and adherence to technical data sheets and specifications.
• Ensure correct time intervals between coats for proper bonding.
• Conduct checks for Dry Film Thickness, Holiday and Pin Hole detection using calibrated tools.
• Supervise surface preparation and coating application processes on riser pipes, clamps, pipelines, and offshore field joints, including tests such as hardness, spark, sound, adhesion, and visual inspections.

Additional Responsibilities

• Approve and manage non-conformities and corrective actions.
• Assess and implement Bureau Veritas interventions according to quality plans.
• Review inspection procedures and report daily inspection activities and discrepancies to the Team Leader.
• Maintain continuous professional development and conduct inspections according to approved plans and drawings.
• Comply with company policies, procedures, and the Code of Ethics.

Client and Safety Focus

• Ensure all inspections meet purchase orders, technical specifications, and approved plans.
• Maintain regular communication with clients and project management consultants to understand and meet project goals.
• Adhere strictly to all legal and company health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements, including proper use of PPE, hazard reporting, and participation in safety investigations.

Performance and Development

• Deliver inspection reports timely and with quality to Team Leader.
• Perform inspections within allocated timeframe while sharing knowledge and best practices.
• Engage in specialized training to enhance technical competencies and stay updated on industry developments.
