Role Overview

The Genetic Research Manager will oversee genetics and genomics research projects, scientific strategy, laboratory operations, genomic data analyses, and lead cross-disciplinary research teams. The role involves managing research design, experimentation, data processing, collaboration with scientific partners, and ensuring research adheres to high scientific, ethical, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and execute genetic research plans, portfolios, and priorities aligned with the organization's goals.
  • Lead projects involving genetics, genomics, molecular biology, population genetics, gene sequencing, and related fields.
  • Design and supervise research studies, lab protocols, genomic analyses, sample workflows, and validation.
  • Collaborate with experts in genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, computation, clinical research, labs, regulatory, ethics, and leadership.
  • Develop research methods, standards for experimentation, quality assurance, data governance, reproducibility, and documentation.
  • Manage sequencing initiatives including NGS, WGS, WES, RNA seq, genotyping, and molecular techniques.
  • Oversee management of biological samples, laboratory systems, sample tracking, biobanking, and data quality controls.
  • Lead bioinformatics projects covering variant analysis, genomic annotation, population data, gene expression, and statistical genetics.
  • Build partnerships with academic institutions, research centers, hospitals, biotech, pharma, labs, tech providers, and collaborators.
  • Ensure compliance with UAE laws, institutional policies, ethics standards, human protections, data privacy, biosafety, and international research guidelines.
  • Track performance metrics including research milestones, data quality, reproducibility, publications, grant progress, study completions, scientific impact, collaborations, and portfolio progress.
  • Conduct reviews of research, quality assessments, literature, methods, data audits, reproducibility evaluations, and continuous improvements.
  • Manage budgets, lab resources, sequencing services, scientific equipment, personnel, external labs, grants, technology platforms, and research partnerships.
  • Drive digital transformation using AI-assisted genomic analysis, machine learning, automated variant interpretation, predictive modeling, high-performance computing, genomic platforms, and bioinformatics workflows.
  • Utilize Illumina, Thermo Fisher, BGI platforms, Benchling, Galaxy, Bioconductor, R, Python, MATLAB, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, LIMS, databases, and bioinformatics tools.
  • Prepare scientific reports, publications, grant proposals, executive summaries, genomic analyses, portfolio reviews, presentations, and strategic recommendations.
  • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary research teams promoting scientific integrity, collaboration, innovation, reproducibility, and ongoing improvement.

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, biology, biomedical science, bioinformatics, or related life sciences.
  • Advanced degrees (Master’s or Ph.D.) in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, or biomedical science are highly favored.
  • Professional certifications, research credentials, lab qualifications, or memberships in recognized scientific organizations are preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in genetic research, genomics, molecular biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, or biomedical research.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience managing genetics research programs, teams, genomics projects, or multidisciplinary research efforts is an asset.
  • Deep knowledge of genetics, genomics, molecular biology, sequencing technologies, bioinformatics, genetic variation, experimental design, statistics, research methodology, and data management.
  • Experience with Illumina sequencing, Thermo Fisher tech, Benchling, Galaxy, Bioconductor, R, Python, MATLAB, cloud computing (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), LIMS, genomic databases, and bioinformatics workflows.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven genomics, machine learning, automated variant interpretation, precision medicine, single-cell genomics, multi-omics, high-throughput sequencing, and advanced computational biology is advantageous.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, research and project management, stakeholder engagement, grant handling, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to simultaneously manage multiple research projects while ensuring scientific rigor, ethics, data privacy, lab resources, timelines, funding, regulations, and organizational priorities.
  • Effective remote collaboration with distributed scientists, labs, universities, biotech companies, clinical researchers, technology partners, and global collaborators; willingness to travel occasionally for lab work, conferences, meetings, visits, and planning.
