Role overview
Air New Zealand is seeking Finance Specialists to strengthen its Finance function across several possible workstreams. The position may be located at Auckland Airport Campus or the City Hub, and the final placement could involve portfolio support, cross-functional collaboration, or work within the external reporting team.
This is a varied finance role suited to someone who enjoys working with data, financial information, stakeholders, and business performance. Depending on the assigned team, the work may cover forecasting, management reporting, variance analysis, business partnering, statutory reporting, balance sheet control, audit support, fixed asset accounting, and process enhancement.
The organisation is looking for capable finance professionals who can contribute across multiple portfolios and teams. The best fit will be determined by experience, strengths, and business need.
What you will do
In this role, you will deliver accurate, timely, and useful financial analysis and reporting that supports decision-making across Air New Zealand.
You may work alongside finance business partners, operational leaders, project managers, and other stakeholders. Your input will help leaders gain the financial clarity and support they need to manage performance, improve processes, and make sound decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Create and maintain financial models, reports, and analysis that support business decisions.
- Prepare and review month-end results, forecasts, and budgets.
- Analyse variances and explain performance trends to stakeholders.
- Pull together financial data and present it in a clear, practical format.
- Assist finance business partners and portfolio teams with forecasting and reporting.
- Develop strong working relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Spot opportunities to strengthen reporting, controls, and internal processes.
- Support balance sheet reconciliations and control activities.
- Contribute to statutory reporting and audit-related work.
- Assist with investment activities, including capital expenditure tracking and reporting.
- Work collaboratively with project managers and other stakeholders.
- Help deliver broader Finance team priorities across multiple areas.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone who combines solid finance capability with clear communication, curiosity, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
Ideally, you will bring around three to five years of experience in finance, accounting, commercial analysis, or a similar analytical role. You should be comfortable interpreting financial trends, explaining variances, and turning numbers into practical insights.
Advanced spreadsheet ability is important, including strong Excel skills and the capability to build, maintain, and document reliable models, reports, and analysis. A genuine interest in technology, data, and emerging tools is also valued, along with the willingness to explore and adopt new ways of working, including AI-enabled solutions.
Experience with data and analytics tools such as Power BI and Power Pivot is helpful, and the role requires openness to learning new platforms and using AI to improve reporting and insight. Strong stakeholder communication, attention to detail, sound judgement, the ability to prioritise competing tasks, and a proactive approach to process improvement are also important.
A relevant tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related field is expected. A CA qualification, or progress toward CA, would be an advantage, especially for positions with stronger accounting, reporting, or controls responsibilities.
