Overview
Join the Waimakariri District Council and play a vital role in enhancing community safety and resilience. This full-time, fixed-term (18 months) position offers an opportunity to impact the well-being of the Waimakariri District by managing emergency management operations and community outreach.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) volunteers effectively.
- Review and update operational guidance to ensure readiness and compliance.
- Develop Council staff capabilities in delivering efficient CDEM functions.
- Provide strategic development leadership, translating strategies into actionable operations.
- Design and conduct education and training programs related to emergency management.
- Assist in leading responses during civil defence emergencies.
- Support the role of the CDEM duty officer as needed.
- Offer expert advice on CDEM matters to Council staff.
- Promote and enhance the community’s resilience against disasters.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a valid New Zealand Driver’s Licence.
- Willingness to work beyond regular hours for emergencies, training exercises, public engagements, and volunteer training.
- Possesses proven experience in strategic development and operationalizing those strategies.
- Experience or training in educational program development and delivery.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse groups.
- Community-oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous learning, cooperation, and improvement.
Additional Information
