About the Role
Selected Diploma Engineering Trainees (DET) will embark on a comprehensive training program in their first year with the company. The initial six months will involve intensive training across various departments at both the VSF Plant and Excel Plant within the BC Kharach Unit, allowing trainees to gain in-depth insight into the manufacturing operations.
Following this, the next six months will be dedicated to hands-on project assignments tailored as per the unit's needs. Throughout this period, trainees will also participate in a Job Shadowing program under a designated Host, fostering practical learning and integration within the assigned department.
Training & Work Structure
The DET will receive orientation from the Unit HR SPOC and the assigned Job Shadow Host over two days, covering departmental processes, safety protocols, and team introductions. During approximately 5 to 6 months of shadowing, trainees will actively engage in department tasks, attend review meetings, and participate in customer interactions, mirroring their host’s daily responsibilities.
The immediate reporting authority during this stint will be the Section Head, who will regularly evaluate the trainee’s work. Project assignments will be allocated by the Department Head, who will monitor progress biweekly.
Project & Job Shadowing Integration
Both project work and job shadowing are conducted concurrently to maximize exposure to manufacturing processes. This approach facilitates comprehensive understanding and skill development.
Host Responsibilities
- Prepare and provide relevant documents and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to the trainee.
- Identify and share essential departmental information and learning materials.
- Explain workflow basics and address trainee inquiries to ensure clarity of work instructions.
- Document learning outcomes and maintain communication with supervisors.
- Facilitate team interactions to embed the trainee within the department.
- Provide honest, constructive feedback to the Section Head and Department Head post-shadowing.
Trainee Responsibilities
- Actively participate during shadowing, ask questions, and take diligent notes on processes and instructions.
- Develop a comprehensive presentation at the end of the stint summarizing department processes, project objectives, findings, and completion status.
- Use diagrams to illustrate understanding of departmental workflows.
- Propose suggestions for process improvements based on learning and project experience.
- Highlight key achievements and learning outcomes during the presentation.
