About the Role
This full-time, permanent role is ideal for someone with a passion for contemporary womenswear fashion, eager to assist in developing elevated products under the guidance of the Design Director. The candidate will engage cross-departmentally to manage collection development from concept through production. The position requires physical presence in the Downtown Los Angeles headquarters at least three days per week within a hybrid open office environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Assist the design team with seasonal collection development initiatives.
- Organize seasonal color code requests and establish style logic for collections.
- Assign style numbers for all new items developed.
- Update the Company Master Line sheet with finalized style information.
- Collaborate with the design team on Pantone selections and set seasonal color palettes across categories.
- Maintain design boards showcasing mood, color inspiration, updated sketches, and fabric samples when available.
- Prepare materials and information for design meetings.
- Maintain organized seasonal binders with fabric headers, lab dips, print strike-offs, and sample racks for reference and development efficiency.
- Build and uphold physical and digital libraries of core fabrics and yarns.
- Coordinate swatch and print packages for distribution tied to new developments.
- Support creation of CADs as required.
- Contribute to developing cut-up, fast track, and wholesale exclusive styles.
- Handle sample ordering, returning, and tracking processes.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the design workspace, including storage areas.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proficiency in sketching and CAD software, particularly Adobe Illustrator; experience with Procreate is advantageous.
- Strong fashion trend and color sensitivity.
- Capability to internalize brand identity and assist in the design process accordingly.
- Effective communication of garment silhouettes and intricate construction details via tech packs and CAD designs.
- Thorough knowledge of design specifics, fabric properties, garment construction, and fit terminology.
- Adaptable and flexible mindset suitable for fast-paced settings.
- Ability to multitask efficiently and switch focus as priorities shift; independent and team-oriented working styles.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, time management, and a proactive approach to prioritization.
- Self-driven with a positive, dependable attitude.
- Ability to complete daily tasks remotely when necessary.
- Willingness to embrace flexible job responsibilities.
Education and Experience
- 0 to 3 years of experience in fashion design within the women's ready-to-wear contemporary market.
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Fashion Design or related discipline preferred.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Product Development and Technical Design teams is beneficial.
- Exposure to engagement with overseas vendors and factories is a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Suite (Gmail, Docs).
- Strong command of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Compensation
The hourly wage ranges from $26 to $31 depending on experience.
Additional Information
The position requires commuting feasibility to Downtown Los Angeles and participation in a hybrid work model with minimum three days at the office weekly.
