About the Role
This position is part of the Digital Services division within the People, Performance and Culture group at Hamilton City Council. The group’s mission is to empower the council to become a leading, community-focused organisation by prioritising vital initiatives, ensuring effective systems and tools, and enhancing team workflows.
We seek a skilled and collaborative Cybersecurity Engineer with a security-by-design mindset to join our agile Digital Services Team. Your responsibilities will combine operational, tactical, and strategic tasks, supporting the cybersecurity roadmap. You will be involved in delivering initiatives, managing cybersecurity incidents, assessing risks, influencing cyber strategy, administering systems, and implementing cybersecurity standards.
As a key member of the Cyber team, you will collaborate cross-functionally with Digital Services teams such as Cloud and Network, Application Platform, Service Desk, and other departments across the organisation. You will join an agile team dedicated to elevating cybersecurity posture across various business units and infrastructures through both tactical and strategic efforts.
Qualifications and Experience
- Preferred relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, ISO Auditor, or GIAC.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, methodologies, and tools.
- Experience defending cybersecurity across people, processes, and technology.
- Familiarity with security frameworks and standards.
- Capability to conduct security assessments and vulnerability analyses.
- Knowledge of cloud security and virtualization technologies.
- Hands-on experience with security tools.
- Over five years of professional experience in cybersecurity or related fields.
- Proven ability to implement and maintain security controls effectively.
- Demonstrated success in identifying and mitigating security risks.
- Ability to champion the Cyber and Risk functions within Digital Services and the wider organisation.
- Capacity to manage multiple deadlines under pressure.
- Commitment to developing and maintaining cybersecurity policies and procedures.
- Experience working in agile environments both within cybersecurity and cross-functional teams.
Additional Information
Salary: Approximately NZD 110,000 annually, depending on skills and experience.
