Overview
We are seeking a Critical Environment Program Manager to join Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation team, responsible for supporting the infrastructure that enables cloud services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. Our goal is to create an inclusive workplace culture aligned with Microsoft's core values, fostering professional growth through training, certification, and diversity initiatives.
The infrastructure consists of over 100 data centers and 1 million servers, serving more than a billion users globally. Environmental sustainability guides our data center design and operational strategies as we continue to expand to meet dynamic business needs.
Responsibilities
- Ensure data center business units comply with policies and service levels.
- Coordinate with relevant teams to execute projects and tasks effectively.
- Manage programs within assigned responsibility areas, maintaining budget discipline and cost-effectiveness.
- Adhere to strict safety and security policies; promptly report any related issues.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis processes as necessary.
- Maximize critical environment availability in leased data centers working alongside landlord partners.
- Oversee daily operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment, including procedure reviews and risk mitigation.
- Drive reduction in high-impact and human error incidents annually.
- Lead cost and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Support emergency preparedness and respond to facility-related issues, serving as escalation point.
- Arrange and supervise audits and compliance checks of critical environments.
- Manage reporting on power, temperature, humidity, and SLA monitoring metrics.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with engineering groups and landlord partners, contributing to regular business reviews.
- Collaborate globally to share and establish best practices across data centers.
- Mentor colleagues by sharing expertise and facilitating learning opportunities.
- Identify training that aligns with business and professional development goals.
- Propose improvements to maintenance scheduling and risk reduction.
- Contribute positively to team culture and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Take ownership of service delivery quality, customer experience, safety, and security standards, managing escalations appropriately.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years of industry experience in data centers or critical environment facilities, or 3+ years industry experience with college coursework.
- Must be able to pass Microsoft Cloud background checks at hire and biennially.
- Preferred qualifications include 3+ years experience with critical environment infrastructure (e.g., UPS, generators, AHUs), bachelor's or technical certification in mechanical or electrical engineering or services, experience managing large-scale critical environment projects, and familiarity with IT infrastructure operation like servers, SANs, and networking.
Additional Information
This role requires compliance with security screenings mandated by Microsoft and possibly government or customer standards. The position is open for applications on an ongoing basis until filled, with a minimum listing duration of five days.
