Court Security Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a Court Security Manager to oversee a team of up to 12 security officers at the Gisborne District & High Court. This is a permanent, full-time position focused on ensuring a secure environment for all participants in New Zealand's justice system. Your responsibilities will include managing team operations in a demanding security setting, building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders and external agencies, and providing safe court operations. Within three months of starting, new hires must attend a three-week residential training program in Wellington.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop your security team to reach their full capabilities.
• Manage operational activities within a complex and challenging environment.
• Quickly and confidently assess operational risks and make sound decisions.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of people and organizations.
• Collaborate with agencies such as NZ Police, Department of Corrections, and Oranga Tamariki.
• Ensure courts operate safely and professionally at all times.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong leadership skills with a focus on team development.
• Commitment to excellent customer service.
• Ability to de-escalate conflict situations effectively.
• Physical capability to perform full contact safety officer techniques.
• Comfortable with technology use in daily operations.
• Possess a full, clean New Zealand driver's license.

Employment Details and Benefits

• Standard 40-hour workweek with the possibility of paid overtime when extra coverage is needed.
• May require minimum 3-hour shifts on Saturdays.
• Work primarily based at Gisborne District & High Court, with occasional deployments to other local courts; travel expenses covered by the Ministry.
• Salary range from $74,634 to $95,591 annually, based on experience and skills.
