Position Overview

The Buyer role entails managing procurement activities for goods and services, especially focusing on outsourced machine and fabrication parts. The incumbent will coordinate with both internal manufacturing teams and external vendors to gather product details regarding pricing, availability, and delivery timelines. This position involves vendor selection through product testing and evaluation, as well as sourcing and developing new machine and fabrication suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the procurement of machine and fabrication parts by liaising between internal manufacturing floors and external outsourced vendors.
• Review floor capacity and collaborate with vendors to obtain information on product pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.
• Select products by testing or examining items to ensure quality and suitability.
• Evaluate vendor quotes and negotiate contracts adhering to budget and scope constraints.
• Maintain detailed procurement records including purchased items, costs, delivery details, quality assessments, and inventory levels.
• Assess market prices to estimate purchase values and decide procurement methods (internal or outsourced).
• Prepare purchase orders and bid requests accurately.
• Address issues related to defective or unacceptable goods by communicating with inspection/quality teams, users, and vendors to identify problems and implement corrective measures.
• Expedite delivery of urgent goods to users as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 1 to 3 years of experience related to machining, fabricating, or outsourcing purchasing in a high-volume environment.
• Familiarity with manufacturing, machine, and fabrication processes.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints effectively.
• Strong analytical skills to understand complex machine and fabrication part details.
• Proficient in reviewing vendor quotes and negotiating purchase contracts.
• Competence in maintaining procurement documentation and records.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications and strong communication capabilities.
