Business Analyst

About the Role

TEKsystems is seeking a Business Analyst to support a leading Federal Agency in Canberra on a 12-month contract with a possible 12-month extension. The role involves participating in ICT-enabled project delivery and business transformation efforts aimed at infrastructure and application modernization. The position requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, project teams, architects, and technical personnel to capture and define business requirements and ensure successful delivery across all project phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive discovery activities to capture business needs and operational factors.
• Gather, analyze, and document business, functional, and non-functional requirements.
• Facilitate stakeholder workshops, interviews, and consultations.
• Document business challenges, objectives, expected benefits, and success criteria.
• Perform current-state assessments and contribute to future-state design efforts.
• Analyze processes, systems, data flows, user experiences, and service interactions.
• Identify gaps, risks, dependencies, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Assist in prioritizing requirements, backlog items, and delivery features.
• Create comprehensive and clear business analysis documentation.
• Maintain traceability among requirements, design choices, test plans, and outcomes.
• Help refine product backlogs, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Ensure requirements are quantifiable, testable, and aligned to business goals.
• Participate in requirements validation, sign-off, and change management.
• Develop process maps, workflows, customer journeys, and system interaction diagrams.
• Collaborate with architects, technical teams, and stakeholders to evaluate solutions.
• Support testing efforts including user acceptance testing, defect tracking, and test scenario creation.
• Contribute to business readiness activities including training needs, change impact analysis, and transition planning.
• Prepare briefing notes, status reports, governance documents, and decision-support materials.
• Work within Agile, Hybrid, or Waterfall project delivery frameworks and engage in sprint planning, backlog grooming, demos, retrospectives, and other ceremonies.

Qualifications & Skills

• Proven experience in business and systems analysis within ICT delivery environments.
• Strong ability to elicit, document, and analyze business, functional, and non-functional requirements.
• Proficiency in producing business analysis deliverables such as requirements documents, process maps, user stories, acceptance criteria, wireframes, ER diagrams, and journey maps.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, facilitation, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Analytical problem-solving capabilities with a focus on identifying risks and improvement potentials.
• Experience navigating projects through discovery, design, delivery, testing, and implementation phases.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, demonstrating initiative and sound judgment.
• Familiarity with Agile, Hybrid, or iterative delivery methodologies.
• Exposure to ServiceNow, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, ERP systems, or similar enterprise platforms is strongly preferred.
• Understanding of Australian government standards related to governance, privacy, security, accessibility, records management, and procurement is advantageous.
• Relevant certifications or qualifications in Business Analysis, Agile Delivery, Systems Analysis, Project Management, or Service Design are desirable.
