About Taxceed
Taxceed is an accounting firm that helps expanding businesses operate with the kind of financial structure normally found inside an in-house finance team, even before they are ready to build one. The firm brings tax, accounting, and finance together into one connected operating function so owners can make stronger decisions.
Founded in Washington, DC, Taxceed is a fully distributed company that works with business owners across the United States whose annual revenue falls between $3 million and $100 million.
About the role
This position is the base layer of the Taxceed process, and everything else depends on it. The bookkeeper owns two closely related responsibilities: capturing business activity accurately and ensuring every engagement is fully prepared before any technical work starts. Every statement, filing, model, and dollar figure produced by the firm depends on the accuracy of this work.
Accuracy is treated as absolute here: a misclassified transaction is simply incorrect, and a file that is only mostly complete is still not ready. The quality standard of the whole firm begins at this level.
How we work
The team believes the upper limit of the firm's quality is determined by this foundation layer. The same discipline that supports flawless transaction recording also supports enforcing a firm readiness gate under pressure. The process is proactive rather than reactive: ten business days before each period-end, the system automatically sends a standardized request to the client. The expectation is not to wait for reminders, and not to allow deadlines to override readiness standards.
What you will do
Transaction recording
- Capture all transactions completely and correctly for every period, with no exceptions.
- Complete reconciliations for each account before the books-closed status is updated.
- Escalate any unusual activity or discrepancies to the Accountant or Tax Preparer right away, rather than waiting until close.
Engagement readiness
- Act as the gatekeeper so technical work does not begin until documents are received, system access is active, and the engagement calendar is up to date.
- Manage all inbound items, including notices, client messages, and external documents, by logging, classifying, and routing them within 24 hours.
- Lead the weekly status board review by checking every open item, highlighting anything blocked, and surfacing deadlines that are at risk.
Automation mindset
- Approach every manual step as something that could potentially be replaced with a system, and treat the reduction of manual readiness work as a core performance measure.
What you will learn
- How to perform zero-error transaction recording and reconciliations across multiple client entities.
- How to maintain a readiness gate that the rest of the firm relies on.
- How an integrated tax, accounting, and finance operation runs from end to end.
- How to design systems that reduce manual readiness tasks.
Who will do well here
Strong candidates are naturally detail-oriented, comfortable with repetitive precision work, and able to hold a firm boundary when deadlines or pressure increase. They notice issues immediately, view systems as opportunities to improve efficiency, and take full ownership of their work without needing reminders.
Who should not apply
- People who think a file that is only “mostly ready” is good enough to move forward.
- People who need close supervision to stay ahead of deadlines.
- People who treat bookkeeping as simple administrative box-checking instead of a craft.
- People who want a role without accountability for outcomes.
What you will find here
- Competitive compensation.
- A full-time, long-term role with a clear progression path either toward Accountant or Tax Preparer, or along the specialist track of Senior Bookkeeper → Bookkeeping Manager → Bookkeeping Director.
- Direct mentoring from the firm's founder and senior technical team members.
- Practical exposure to multiple client entities and several accounting platforms.
- A workplace where your accuracy becomes the baseline for everyone else's work.
Work environment
- Fully remote setup.
- Core working hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
- Weekly team collaboration meetings.
- Direct interaction with business owners and a high-performing global team.
Experience and approach
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented by nature, not only by training, and is comfortable doing repetitive work with precision. Experience with bookkeeping or accounting software is preferred. More important than years of experience is a willingness to work within a documented process that does not change based on preference.
