About the Organization
The Writers Guild of America East (WGAE), AFL-CIO, represents over 7,000 writers who contribute to motion pictures, scripted TV, broadcast news, digital media, podcasts, and nonfiction television. The Guild advocates for and safeguards members' creative and economic rights, organizes unrepresented writers, and offers a variety of programs including panels, seminars, social gatherings, educational sessions, and advocacy to promote writers' interests.
Role Overview
Under the supervision of the Director of Programs, the Awards & Events Administrator manages the submission, judging, and production processes of the WGA Awards; supports guild-wide meetings, communications, and events; coordinates essential functions during the annual WGAE election; and acts as a liaison with Union Plus and the Consortium for Worker Education.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer the submissions and judging phases for WGA Awards.
- Maintain and update official documents and oversee the coordination of mailings.
- Participate actively on the screenings team by managing volunteers, coordinating with studio public relations and venue staff, and hosting screenings.
- Resolve any concerns linked to screeners and voting procedures.
- Organize the Awards event, including facilitating committee meetings, managing communications, handling ticketing and trophies, overseeing volunteers, soliciting program content, and preparing post-event reports.
- Design invitations and manage event attendance records, including attendee check-in and no-show tracking.
- Support event logistics such as setup, breakdown, and audio/visual arrangements.
- Maintain scheduling and tracking of upcoming events.
- Serve as Union Plus liaison by conducting annual Homebuyers and Healthcare Lunch & Learn sessions.
- Administer funding requests and report submissions for the Consortium for Worker Education.
- Prepare events by managing submissions and judging for screenplay/pilot readings and pitch workshops.
- Assist with catering orders and setup when required.
- Support e-blasting and assist with generating member database reports as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a bargaining-unit role represented by United Steelworkers Local 318. The salary range for this position is $84,173 to $90,646, reflecting a minimum-maximum pay scale that may vary based on qualifications and experience. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a defined benefit pension plan, a 401(k) retirement savings plan, and generous paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, disability leave, and holidays.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with at least three years' proven experience in event planning or programming, preferably in entertainment, academia, nonprofit sectors, or labor unions.
- Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, including expertise in meeting planning and event logistics.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
- Capacity to juggle multiple complex projects concurrently and meet deadlines while prioritizing tasks appropriately.
- Experience working within labor unions is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database management, e-blast tools, and web publishing software; familiarity with Airtable is a plus.
