About Austin PBS
Austin PBS, known as KLRU-TV, is a locally owned nonprofit PBS station serving Central Texas. The station offers thousands of hours of content across multiple platforms and hosts numerous community events annually, reaching nearly every household daily. It broadcasts 35,000 hours of free programming yearly on four channels and the PBS app, covering areas like arts, culture, history, public affairs, and local and national news. As a mission-driven organization, Austin PBS strives to educate, inspire, and entertain Central Texans through quality programming and events.
Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Audio Intern to join the Production team this spring. This position offers hands-on experience in live audio production, broadcast mixing, and post-production workflows. The intern will assist with studio and field programming alongside the Lead Audio Engineer and Production Coordinator, contributing to a range of Austin PBS shows and events.
Responsibilities
- Support audio staff with pre-production, studio, field, and post-production activities.
- Assist with preparing input lists, stage plots, microphone setups, and equipment for studio and location shoots.
- Observe and help mix audio for live audiences, band monitoring, and final recordings.
- Take part in audio sweetening, file handling, and other post-production tasks.
- Attend studio and field production sessions as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with producers, engineers, and crew to ensure high-quality audio output.
- Perform additional duties as needed based on production requirements.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled undergraduate student in an accredited degree program for the entire internship period.
- Availability for at least 14 weeks in-person, preferably daily 15–20 hours weekly.
- Strong enthusiasm for broadcast media, live events, and music production.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and basic computer skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently or within a team.
- Familiarity with Austin PBS programming is advantageous.
Physical Requirements
The role primarily involves working in studios and offices, with occasional travel to off-site shoots. Tasks may require lifting production equipment.
