About the Role
Join one of Australasia's foremost intellectual property firms as an Associate Patent Attorney, specializing in Engineering IT. This role is based in Auckland, New Zealand, within AJ Park, where you'll play a key role in advising and protecting the IP of innovative clients worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate client invention proposals to determine intellectual property opportunities.
- Provide expert advice on patentability and potential third-party rights that may be applicable.
- Prepare, file, and manage patent applications across New Zealand, Australia, and international jurisdictions.
- Offer guidance on issues related to infringement and patent validity.
- Draft patent specifications with an international perspective.
- Oversee and manage patent portfolios for diverse clients.
- Support contentious IP matters as needed.
- Develop and advise on overarching intellectual property strategies.
- Maintain and build proactive client relationships.
- Offer leadership and mentorship to junior and assistant colleagues.
- Promote the firm's profile by participating in business development activities, authoring articles, and speaking at industry events.
Candidate Requirements
- Registered patent attorney credentials recognized in Trans-Tasman, UK, European Patent Office, and/or US jurisdictions.
- A minimum of two years of professional post-qualification experience.
- Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in ICT, electrical engineering, or mechatronics engineering.
- High proficiency in writing claims against existing prior art.
- Strong organizational capabilities including multitasking, prioritization, and meeting deadlines effectively.
