Role Overview

The Associate News Editor based in the UK will be part of Newsweek's digital newsroom focusing on comprehensive coverage of U.S. news including politics, current affairs, and cultural topics. The position requires experience in fast-paced newsroom settings with strong skills in writing and editing digital content to high standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, edit, and publish multiple news stories daily while maintaining editorial quality.
  • React swiftly and accurately to breaking news events.
  • Continuously monitor various sources to identify new stories and emerging trends.
  • Propose original stories, exclusives, and conduct interviews.
  • Manage and contribute to live blogs when necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with US News Editor and editorial teams for project coordination and coverage planning.
  • Guarantee all published material complies with Newsweek's principles of accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity.
  • Perform additional editorial tasks as required.

Candidate Requirements

  • Several years of professional experience in digital news journalism.
  • Strong editorial judgment particularly on diverse U.S. news topics.
  • Capacity to produce and refine content efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and strategic planning abilities.
  • Proficiency with digital publishing platforms, content management systems, and editing tools.
  • Familiarity with common IT applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including weekends as part of a rotational schedule.

Terms and Working Conditions

This full-time role involves working five days per week on a roster that typically includes one or two weekend days. The position offers flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in the UK or from the London Canary Wharf office.
