Overview
The County of Los Angeles, the largest employer in Southern California with over 4,000 employees in Public Works, is seeking an Application Developer I to join their team in Los Angeles County, CA. This role involves software application development, maintenance, modification, and problem-solving within a structured software development lifecycle under supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance application programs according to specifications by coding, testing, and debugging.
- Assist in creating work plans and technical documentation related to system architecture, integration, testing, and implementation.
- Gather business requirements by collaborating with business customers following defined specifications.
- Conduct supervised quality assurance testing for application changes or development.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues.
- Write and run data manipulation programs.
- Review technical documentation and user manuals.
- Install application software.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet ONE of the following:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related fields such as Software Engineering, Computer Systems Analysis, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, Computer Networks, Artificial Intelligence, or Information Technology.
- At least two years of full-time, recent (within the past three years) experience in coding, testing, and debugging one or more application systems.
A valid California Class C Driver License or equivalent transportation means is necessary to fulfill essential job duties.
Physical Requirements
This position requires light physical activity, including occasional lifting up to 10 pounds and some bending or stooping, with considerable walking involved.
Examination Process
The assessment consists of two parts: a multiple choice and/or simulation test (60%) covering various competencies including reasoning, professional potential, adaptability, and quality standards; and a training and experience evaluation (40%) focusing on technical knowledge of software applications and programming. Candidates need a combined score of 70% or above to be eligible for placement.
