Job description
Overview
Fulfillment IQ is a company specializing in supply chain engineering and transformation that assists brands, retailers, and third-party logistics in designing and scaling advanced logistics operations. We blend strategy, operations, and technology to solve complex warehouse, automation, transportation, and supply chain execution challenges. This role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where your engineering skills directly impact global commerce.
Position Summary
We are seeking a senior AI Engineer to take ownership and responsibility for designing and delivering production-grade Large Language Model (LLM) systems, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agents, and APIs. Candidates should operate independently with minimal supervision in complex and evolving technical landscapes where speed and high-quality architecture are critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and develop reliable, scalable LLM systems including RAG frameworks, agent architectures, and API endpoints.
- Engineer solutions that minimize rework and adapt to fast-changing requirements.
- Lead end-to-end delivery of essential AI-driven features.
- Create and apply comprehensive evaluation mechanisms for system performance and quality.
- Optimize AI components focusing on cost-efficiency, latency reduction, and operational reliability.
- Work collaboratively across multiple teams and provide mentorship to junior and peer engineers.
Required Qualifications
- Strong background in backend and software development technologies including Python and API/system design.
- Demonstrated experience successfully launching production LLM-powered capabilities.
- Expertise with retrieval-augmented generation, advanced information retrieval, and evaluation methodologies (such as golden test sets and regression analysis).
- Competency in prompt engineering for APIs and agent-based designs (e.g., ReAct, tool integration, planning algorithms).
- Excellent judgment in balancing trade-offs around cost, scalability, and performance.
- Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous, rapidly evolving technical environments.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with fine-tuning techniques including LoRA, supervised fine-tuning, and direct preference optimization.
- Familiarity with inference technologies such as vLLM, Text Generation Inference, or llama.cpp.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools like Langfuse or LangSmith.
- Track record in startups or early-stage, high-responsibility teams.
- Presence of publicly accessible work such as GitHub projects, blogs, or speaking engagements demonstrating deep expertise.
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative discipline is required.
Technical Expertise
- Advanced Python programming and backend engineering skills.
- Proficient with LLM-based systems covering RAG, agents, and prompt evaluation.
- Strong API design and system architecture capabilities.
- Experience with Docker, Git, continuous integration, and continuous deployment pipelines.
- Understanding of inference system scaling and operational considerations.
Soft Skills and Attributes
- High degree of ownership and accountability for project outcomes.
- Comfortable managing uncertainty and evolving requirements dynamically.
- Capability in making strategic technical decisions involving trade-offs.
- Clear and effective communication across multidisciplinary teams.
Performance Milestones (First 90 Days)
- Within first month, gain deep familiarity with current system architectures and contribute beyond onboarding activities.
- By month two, independently lead and deliver a key feature or system enhancement, demonstrating strong execution skills.
- By the third month, function as a trusted senior leader driving critical architectural improvements and measurable system impact.
