Overview
This is a continuing, full-time position located in Shepparton. The role supports client rehabilitation while working closely with the Aboriginal community. The annual salary range is $89,292 to $96,073, plus superannuation.
This opportunity is reserved for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and will receive priority consideration under the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
About the organisation
Community Correctional Services helps protect the community by using approaches that reduce reoffending and connect people with suitable programs, services, and support networks. The service is focused on delivering responsive, culturally respectful support aligned with the department’s Aboriginal Justice Agreements.
Role summary
The Aboriginal Case Manager works with both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal clients who are subject to court orders. The position involves assessing risk, building case plans, delivering interventions, and working on the factors that contribute to offending. The aim is to help clients complete their orders successfully while also maintaining community safety.
The role may also involve advising the Koori Court during sentencing. A key part of the position is creating and putting into practice cultural support plans for Aboriginal clients, as well as working with Aboriginal justice networks to find the right supports that improve case management outcomes.
Key duties
- Assess client risk and contribute to effective case planning.
- Develop and deliver interventions that address underlying offending behaviour.
- Support clients in completing court order requirements.
- Balance rehabilitation goals with the need to protect community safety.
- Provide cultural support planning for Aboriginal clients.
- Work with Aboriginal justice networks and local service providers to strengthen outcomes.
- Offer advice to the Koori Court when required.
Selection criteria
To be effective in this position, you should bring the following:
- Strong, respectful communication skills when dealing with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community.
- The ability to work effectively with local support services and the Koori Court in managing cases.
- A sound understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, including social and cultural factors and current issues affecting it.
- Experience in, or knowledge of, case management practices, including proactive risk management for complex clients.
- The ability to model pro-social behaviour and encourage positive change in people under case management.
- Confidence, assertiveness, and the ability to manage difficult or challenging behaviour.
