About the company
SMT GB is part of a long-established distribution group focused on machinery and trucks. The business supports the construction, material handling, recycling, and transport sectors, and operates across Africa, Belgium, Luxembourg, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and the United States. Although the wider company was launched in 2010, its roots go back to 1946.
Role overview
We are looking for a dependable and hands-on Yard Person to help run and keep order in the yard and outdoor storage areas at the Immingham depot in Greater Nottingham. This permanent, full-time position sits at Grade 9 and is central to keeping stock organised, equipment accessible, and the site safe and presentable.
What you will do
- Clean, wash, and valet machines so they are prepared to a high standard for dispatch.
- Receive machines from the dock when needed, inspect them for any visible damage or faults, and move them into the correct storage locations.
- Use the yard layout efficiently by maximising space and putting practical storage systems in place.
- Keep the yard neat, orderly, and safe throughout the working day.
- Load machinery safely onto low loaders for dispatch, while coordinating with MPC administration and transport drivers to meet agreed deadlines and delivery plans.
- Support the booking-in and control of couriers in and out of the Immingham depot, maintaining accurate records of all items received and sent.
What we are looking for
To be successful in this role, you should bring practical yard experience, good organisation, and the confidence to work around heavy equipment. You should be comfortable working on your own as well as contributing to a team, and you will need to communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors.
Desirable experience
- Previous work in a similar yard, depot, or outdoor environment.
- Familiarity with construction machinery or heavy equipment.
- A valid UK driving licence.
- A forklift licence or another relevant qualification.

- Free physio access by phone or video.
- 24/7 GP service for private medical support at any time.
- Additional health and wellbeing support.
- Enhanced sick pay for extra support during illness.
- Enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption leave.

- Refer-a-friend bonus.
- Long service awards starting from three years.
- One paid volunteering day each year.
