Job description

Role Purpose

This role is designed to assist in the administration and coordination of worker welfare programs. The Welfare Officer will support the maintenance of labor camps and address worker grievances to ensure discipline, general upkeep, safety, and the overall well-being of employees residing in these camps.

Key Accountabilities

  • Aid in the implementation and upkeep of worker welfare procedures and standards at the project level, ensuring adherence to UAE Labour Law, company policies, and client requirements.
  • Verify that legal and contractual welfare obligations are properly integrated into welfare management plans, project documentation, and site-level procedures.
  • Act as the primary welfare representative and liaison at the project site, connecting workers, subcontractors, and management on all welfare-related matters.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess welfare facilities, hygiene standards, food services, accommodation, and general employee well-being, ensuring proper discipline, safety, and maintenance.
  • Support the organization and execution of regular welfare inspections and audits for projects and subcontractors, documenting findings and submitting reports to the HSSE & Welfare Manager.
  • Monitor and report on welfare Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), providing accurate data and insights for internal reviews and management decisions.
  • Follow up on instances of non-compliance, assist in developing corrective and preventive action plans, and ensure the timely resolution of grievances submitted through formal and informal channels.
  • Deliver comprehensive welfare inductions to all site workers, including subcontractor staff, covering welfare standards, grievance processes, and available support systems.
  • Collaborate with employees, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to foster welfare awareness and drive continuous improvement across all sites.
  • Offer basic guidance and support to employees on personal concerns, workplace issues, and grievance procedures as needed, under the supervision of the HSSE & Welfare Manager.
  • Prepare daily welfare reports and maintain thorough documentation related to inspections, audits, complaints, and overall welfare performance.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of welfare, wellbeing, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs and awareness campaigns across all projects.
  • Identify opportunities for enhancing welfare practices and propose practical recommendations to the HSSE & Welfare Manager.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent Diploma.
  • Foundational to solid understanding of worker welfare issues and UAE Labour Law, ideally with 2 to 4 years of experience in the MENA region.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and interact with workers, coupled with strong interpersonal and coordination skills.
  • Effective communication abilities, including familiarity with the languages spoken by the majority of the workforce on site.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Excel, for reporting and documentation tasks.

This is a full-time, onsite position based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
