Role overview
This position is for a Watchperson at Canfor’s Polar Sawmill in Bear Lake, British Columbia. The job focuses on keeping the site safe and secure while the mill is not running. The role calls for someone who notices hazards quickly, follows safety procedures carefully, communicates clearly, and stays composed when handling irregular situations.
What you will do
- Carry out routine inspections across the plant during operation.
- Keep an eye out for trespassers, fire risks, and any unusual activity.
- Enter daily observations into logs and make sure concerns are escalated quickly.
- Check fire suppression systems and related equipment to confirm they are working properly.
- Provide fire watch coverage for maintenance staff working outside normal hours.
- Work in coordination with other Watchpersons to complete shift duties.
- Share updates on irregular events with the appropriate personnel.
- Keep dry valve report forms current in the valve houses.
- Track welding permits and collect them when required.
- Log visitor information and respond to trespassing situations.
- Perform inspections of fire extinguishers.

Work schedule
The role follows a 4-on, 4-off pattern with 12-hour shifts. Some positions alternate between day and night shifts, while others may be assigned only to night shifts.
