About the Role

The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all warehouse activities, including the efficient receiving, storage, handling, and dispatching of goods. This role involves directing the daily operations of warehouse personnel, ensuring smooth workflow, and maintaining high standards of productivity and safety. The supervisor will act as a key point of contact for customer service needs, collaborate with various teams to ensure timely order fulfillment, and identify opportunities for process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily warehouse operations, encompassing the receipt, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch of all inventory.
  • Serve as the primary contact for customer service inquiries related to warehouse operations, coordinating with operations and customer service departments for accurate and prompt order completion.
  • Lead and develop warehouse staff through training on standard operating procedures, new processes, productivity monitoring, and performance management, including addressing disciplinary issues.
  • Proactively identify areas for operational enhancement and implement best practices and technological solutions to optimize efficiency.
  • Leverage warehouse management systems (WMS) for effective inventory control and operational streamlining.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance metrics to assess workload and productivity levels.
  • Ensure high accuracy in inventory management to meet both internal and external product demands.
  • Resolve operational challenges and inventory discrepancies, maintaining clear communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Prepare shift handover reports as needed for incoming teams.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of warehouse layout and space utilization to prevent product damage and maximize efficiency.
  • Consider factors such as freight turnover, size, and weight when allocating warehouse space.
  • Guarantee that all warehouse operations adhere to OSHA safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and training sessions, and implement protocols for handling hazardous materials and equipment safely.
  • Generate required operational reports.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of warehouse equipment and systems.
  • Operate a forklift as required.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications such as APICS or CILT are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct or related experience in warehouse operations, preferably within the freight forwarding or logistics sector.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a mentoring or leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Comprehensive understanding of safety regulations and warehouse best practices.
  • Competence in operating a forklift and familiarity with dock equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong emphasis on Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Mandatory experience with Oracle Transportation Management (Oracle TMS), including daily system usage, shipment management, and transportation operations support.
  • Bilingual proficiency in both English and Spanish, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to maintain a continuous presence through sitting, walking, and standing.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, via PC/keyboard or telephone.
  • Capacity to manage moderate levels of work-related stress.
  • Comfortable working in a moderate to high noise level environment.
  • Capability to lift and transport objects weighing between 40 to 80 lbs within the warehouse.
  • Must be able to perform tasks requiring standing, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping as needed.
  • The physical demands outlined are essential for the successful execution of the job functions.

  • Provide direct supervision and hold accountability for warehouse staff.
  • Support the team in achieving departmental and individual performance goals.
  • Coach and mentor team members to foster development and success.
  • Identify training needs within the department and conduct necessary training sessions.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and team meetings.
  • Clearly communicate departmental and individual objectives and initiatives.
  • Develop, monitor, and review performance metrics and goals with team members.
  • Perform performance appraisals, administer rewards, and implement disciplinary actions or workplace solutions for department staff.
  • Oversee the recruitment and hiring process to meet staffing requirements.
  • Foster an environment where the team actively contributes to ICAT’s overall mission and objectives.
