Job description

Role overview

Townsville City Council is hiring a permanent full-time Warehouse Officer within the Business Services / Procurement division. The role is based in Townsville and follows a 9-day fortnight, with 36.25 hours per week. The position sits at LGO2 level, with a salary of $67,410 to $73,404 per year plus superannuation, depending on the successful candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.

What you will do

This role supports the day-to-day running of stores and inventory activities. You will receive, issue, and store goods accurately, making sure stock is managed according to Council procedures and protected from damage wherever possible. The role also involves handling stock enquiries, processing requisitions, and keeping documentation complete and current.

You will maintain accurate records in the Procurement Business Management System, work with the Team Leader Inventory, assist with regular stocktakes, and monitor stock levels to help identify items that need reordering or are being held in excess. A strong service mindset is important, as inventory requests must be handled quickly, accurately, and within agreed timeframes for both internal and external stakeholders.

About you

The Council is looking for a proactive, organised, and detail-oriented person with practical experience in stores or inventory environments. You should be comfortable handling receiving, dispatch, and stock movements, and have a solid understanding of inventory control, purchasing, and stores processes in a medium to large organisation.

You will need to be confident using data entry tools, Microsoft Office, and other business systems, and you should understand workplace health and safety requirements, including safe storage and manual handling. Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and customer service skills are all essential.
