Job description
Role overview
This permanent full-time position sits within Infrastructure and Operations, under Construction Maintenance and Operations. The job is based at Riverway Stadium and includes a 9-day fortnight with 38 hours worked each week.
About the team
The Parks and Open Space team delivers maintenance services across Townsville’s public infrastructure in parks, open spaces and cemeteries. Their work supports recreational and cultural spaces used by both residents and visitors throughout the Townsville region.
What the role involves
The successful candidate will carry out a range of scheduled maintenance and practical outdoor tasks at Riverway Stadium and the surrounding precinct.
- Mowing lawns and maintaining turf
- Planting and laying turf
- Using whipper snippers and carrying out general gardening work
- Weeding, mulching and hedging
- Applying poisoning treatments where required
- Trimming trees and completing basic irrigation tasks
Working conditions
This is hands-on outdoor work, so you must be physically capable of completing a variety of labouring duties and comfortable working in hot conditions.
Training will be provided, and there are opportunities to move into other roles within the team over time.
Qualifications and licence requirements
To be eligible, you must hold a current C class driver licence and a Construction Industry White Card (30215 QLD).
Desirable tickets and experience
The following qualifications and tickets are preferred, although candidates who do not yet hold them may still be considered if they are willing to obtain them through Council:
- MR class driver licence
- Chainsaw Ticket (Level 2)
- Agricultural Chemical Distribution Certificate (ACDC)
- Plant Operators Certificates of Competency for the relevant plant types and classes used in the role
- Traffic Management Implementation (TMI)
- First Aid Certificate
- Certificate II in Arboriculture and/or Certificate II in Horticulture
Pay and employment conditions
The advertised base pay is $33.05 per hour, plus superannuation. Overtime and penalty rates may apply depending on the work performed, but these are additional to the base rate and are not included in the advertised salary.
