Job description

Role overview

James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a proactive, empathetic Volunteer Coordinator to oversee the attraction, onboarding, support, and retention of its volunteer community. The role sits within the Patient Experience agenda and helps ensure volunteering activity adds real value to patients, families, and staff.

The postholder will design and deliver effective approaches to volunteer recruitment, make sure volunteers receive the right training and support, and keep volunteer activities aligned with Trust values. This role also involves partnering with both clinical and non-clinical teams to create meaningful volunteering opportunities and using feedback from patients and volunteers to support ongoing service improvement.

The successful candidate will be well organised, strongly people-oriented, and committed to creating inclusive volunteer programmes that improve patient care and service delivery.

Key duties

  • Lead the recruitment of new hospital volunteers in line with the Trust recruitment policy and Volunteer Policy.
  • Keep the hospital volunteer database current and accurate.
  • Manage Front of House Receptionists and ensure reception cover is available five days each week.
  • Coordinate a dedicated group of Butterfly Volunteers who support patients at the end of life, along with their families and carers, at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Work with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to strengthen the volunteering offer and improve the patient experience.
  • Use feedback from patients and volunteers to help shape ongoing improvements.

About the employer

The Trust places strong emphasis on its people and aims to support staff from application through to career development. It values investment in employees as a key part of helping them realise their potential and contribute meaningfully to the organisation.
