Job description
Role overview
We are hiring a Vocational Specialist to support our Canadian client base. The role is based in Canada and requires the flexibility to travel up to 100 km from your home when needed. In this position, you will help unemployed people move closer to suitable work by reviewing barriers to employment, carrying out assessments, and identifying realistic job options.
What the role involves
You will work closely with clients to understand their circumstances, communicate findings clearly, and help resolve issues that may affect return-to-work progress. The position calls for strong analytical thinking, the ability to explain complex information in a simple way, and comfort working with people who have disabling conditions. Experience with work conditioning, psychometric testing, vocational assessment, and transferable skills analysis is important.
Core duties
- Interview clients in detail to assess vocational potential, including their work history, education, and medical background.
- Help coordinate rehabilitation and return-to-work services, including discussions with physicians and other healthcare or multidisciplinary professionals where required.
- Match transferable skills with labour market trends and carry out labour market research and surveys.
- Draft thorough reports and rehabilitation plans within set deadlines for clients and all relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Support clients with resume preparation and interview coaching.
- Administer aptitude, interest, academic, and B-level IQ assessments, and determine residual work capacity when needed.
- Conduct detailed research and write reports; familiarity with the NOC, OaSIS, and Career Handbook is a strong advantage.
- Deliver one-on-one guidance and facilitate group sessions on employment readiness topics.
- Perform mobile work as required.
Required qualifications and experience
Applicants should have at least 2 years of experience in vocational evaluation, vocational rehabilitation, or an insurance-related environment. A bachelor’s degree or another relevant post-secondary qualification is required, although a suitable combination of education and experience may also be considered. A background in social work or psychology is an advantage. Candidates with bilingual French and English ability will stand out, though this is not mandatory.
Professional credentials such as CCVE, CVRP-TSA, CVE, or CVRP, along with membership in the Vocational Rehabilitation Association of Canada, are highly desirable. If you do not yet hold one of these designations, you must be eligible to obtain one. Strong computer literacy is required, including experience with MS Office and virtual meeting platforms. You should also understand transferable skills analysis, labour market surveys, vocational evaluations, and community resources used in vocational rehabilitation.
Previous hands-on exposure to Transferable Skills Analysis, Vocational Evaluations, Vocational Testing, or Labour Market Surveys is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to adjust the assessment setting so clients remain comfortable are essential. You must also be able to maintain a safe and secure home-based office.
Inclusion and accommodation
The employer is committed to building an inclusive workplace where people from all backgrounds can succeed. Equal opportunity is extended to all applicants, including Indigenous peoples, newcomers to Canada, women, and visible minorities. Reasonable accommodations are available throughout the recruitment and selection process upon request.
Work arrangement
This is a full-time role. The work is based in Canada and requires onsite/mobile availability as needed, with travel expected within 100 km of your residence when the job requires it.
