About the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority

The Authority is dedicated to the stewardship and management of one of Australia's most renowned coastal landscapes. Its responsibilities include protecting parks, reserves, and marine environments along the Great Ocean Road, specifically notable visitor landmarks. Collaboration with Traditional Owners, local communities, and stakeholders is central to conserving environmental, cultural, and heritage values, while fostering sustainable tourism and conservation.

Overview of the Role

This role focuses on enhancing visitor experiences within the famous Twelve Apostles Precinct. Working collaboratively within a dynamic team, the position involves delivering engaging tours, events, and interactions that showcase the significance of the landscape and its cultural heritage. The role demands enthusiasm for tourism, customer service, and the natural environment while being adaptable to a hands-on, outdoor work setting. Additionally, support across other sites such as Cape Otway Lightstation and caravan park operations may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide captivating visitor experiences including tours, talks, and activations.
  • Welcome and assist guests, creating memorable and positive interactions.
  • Proactively encourage visitors to explore the precinct and nearby areas.
  • Support and help organize community events, seasonal activities, festivals, and special programs.
  • Assist with event setup, operations, and dismantling tasks.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and welcoming atmosphere of visitor areas.
  • Manage visitor flow and crowd control during peak periods.
  • Gather visitor feedback and suggest improvements.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols, environmental guidelines, and cultural heritage policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with visitor services, retail, and operations teams to ensure smooth precinct functioning.

Candidate Requirements

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to confidently engage diverse audiences.
  • A deep interest in tourism, storytelling, and delivering visitor experiences or interpretation.
  • Prior experience in customer service, hospitality, tourism, events, or similar visitor-facing roles.
  • Ability to stay calm, professional, and flexible during busy or changing conditions.
  • Strong teamwork orientation with readiness to assist colleagues in various functions.
  • Reliable attendance and flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and school holidays.
  • Comfort and confidence working outdoors and performing active, practical tasks.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience leading tours, talks, or guided demonstrations.
  • Familiarity with the Great Ocean Road region’s history, environment, and cultural heritage.
  • Current First Aid certification.

  • Applicants must undergo a National Police Check, Working with Children Check, demonstrate Australian work rights, and hold a valid Australian driver’s license.
  • This position is casual with a pay rate ranging from $30.58 to $33.09 per hour plus casual loading.
